confessions of a working mom: crafty lady

Every working mom understands the feeling of dread when she see's "Crazy Hat Day" or any other event at their child's school that requires hours of assembling the perfect pinterest hat, snack, etc.  If you are anything like me, you will make a note of it on your calendar and then let the date sneak up without even a second glance until the night before.  Into the wee hours of the night you work while reprimanding yourself that next time you will NOT let this happen again, ever!

Yup.  I've been there, you've been there, and we've all got the t-shirt to prove it.  This was the case on the Friday before Valentine's day!  I was lucky to have the day off because of Winter Break and I was so excited that I would actually be able to make it to one of my daughter's preschool class parties.  But then it hit me... the valentines are not done!

What happened?!?! I was on top of my game a few weeks earlier when I took LR to pick out the non-candy favors she would give to her classmates at the party.  I even designed her valentines on canva a few days before.  Oh yeah, I was on top of it... just call me "Mom of the Year!"

Next thing I know, the day of the party arrives and I found myself sitting in the car outside of LR's school assembling those darn valentines.  On top of it?  Yeah right!  Oh the woes of a working mom.  There is no way a stay-at-home mom would ever let this type of thing happen, right?

So you can imagine my ambition to not repeat history two months in a row. When I received news that LR's school would celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday with a "Crazy Hat Day" and a birthday party to be held later that evening,  I sent the RSVP in immediately and began designing the hat that would win back my "Mom of the Year" award!

Three hours and one blister from the glue gun later, I sit to write this post on a Sunday afternoon.  Yes, I am exhausted but I am happy that I took the time that I usually spend resting up for a week of work to invest in my daughter.  As a working mom, this means the world to me because I don't get to do this nearly as much as I wish I could.  She will always remember the crazy, cool hat her mommy made and that is worth the world to me, even if I am tired.  Besides, there is always the option of an early bedtime for mommy... after reading LR her favorite Dr. Seuss book, of course.

Happy Sunday, y'all!
Cricket.
